Duiker

Excerpt(s) from the book Namibian Wildlife - an alternative guide for the traveller on safari.

"How do you tell your duiker from your steenbok? Local lore will tell you that the duiker holds a guilty secret, so he bounds away without stopping to look back. The steenbok on the other hand is innocent and will bound away a few steps before pausing to look back."

"Female duikers lack horns but are bigger than the males to make up for it. However they do have the thin crest of hair that looks a small horn coming out of the top centre of their head - candidates for the African pygmy unicorn."
