Eagles

Excerpt(s) from the book Namibian Wildlife - an alternative guide for the traveller on safari.

"How can you tell the male fish eagle from the near identical female? Well if your eyes can judge it well enough he is a little smaller (as is the way with all male eagles). Alternatively you can use your ears - the male has a higher pitched call, and when calling as a pair the female tends to call first."

"Each year steppe eagles come all the way from places like Russia at the top of the world, down to Namibia at the bottom. They arrive in time for the rains so they can feast! What brings such a mighty predator all this way? Termites. I can not help thinking this is a damming statement about winter life in Russia. An individual eagle can eat over 2000 termites a day."
