Flamingos

Excerpt(s) from the book Namibian Wildlife - an alternative guide for the traveller on safari.

"Namibia is the best place in the world to see flamingos, and not a lot of people know that. The population around Walvis Bay has large numbers of lesser and greater flamingos. You can sit on the Esplanade at Walvis lagoon and have large groups of them busily feeding 10 meters from you."

"To breed successfully they need good rains, this means the Namibian birds have only breed successfully five times in forty years!"

"If you can make it down to Sandwich Bay south of Walvis you can see flamingos flying against red sand dunes, a wonderful sight."
