Excerpt(s) from the book Namibian Wildlife - an alternative guide for the traveller on safari.

"Also known as dassies you will find them anywhere there are rocks to sunbathe on and crevices to hide in from eagles. The black eagle is so dependant of hyrax that its range is closely linked to the rocky areas where hyrax live."

"Given their small size (about the size of a rabbit) they have an amazing gestation period of 7 months. The young come out very well developed and are able to eat plants after four days. No months of breast feeding for hyrax."
