"The
black-backed jackal is probably going to be your first African "dog".
They occur throughout Namibia - down at the coast trotting through the
salt pans, or inland hanging around the waterholes at Etosha like
ghosts. They are not popular with farmers since given the opportunity
they will take young lambs."
"Black-backed
jackals are considered more aggressive than their cousin the
side-striped jackal. Some people believe the difference in
aggressiveness is linked to their visibility. The side-striped has a
fairly bland skin pattern, while the black-backed has a more visible
high contrast pattern. The theory is that you are aggressive you can
afford to be more visible to other animals." |
