"When visiting the sand dunes at near Walvis Bay or Sossusvlei you find little shovel-nosed lizards running around the hot dune sand. These are the lizards made famous by many a Namib documentary program. Once the sand heats up they perform a sort of dance lifting opposing front and back legs to reduce the area touching the hot sand."

"A Namibian specialty are barking geckos. Namibia has two endemic species. These geckos live in burrows in the desert. At night the males come out to call and make loud clicking sounds. Their burrows amplify the calls to an impressive level. They are very difficult to see even though you can hear them calling all round you. Campsites like Sesserim and the Ugab Wilderness Community campsite are good places to listen out for them."
