"These guys get everywhere. In particular the yellow mongoose is verycommon in urban areas. You see them all round Windhoek. On occasion you even put your foot in their droppings while walking round town or home. Most evening they turn up to see what food people have dropped in their outdoor dining area."

"To make it confusing the yellow mongoose has two color phases, the traditional (in my mind) yellow version with a white tip to its tail, and the grey version that is more rarely seen. The slender mongoose is a rich brown colour, often with a dark tip to its tail, and does look more slender should you have a yellow mongoose handy to compare it with."

"Meerkats run a tight early warning system. While foraging one member of the troop is always on guard from some lookout point. The guard will keep making quiet noises so that the troop knows that all is well. So silence means the guard is in trouble. The guard will sound a short bark for danger from the air, and a high pitched sound for danger on the ground."
