in the 1970's none of the reserves that are now in these areas existed
and the authorities decided to try an ambitious relocation program.
Using sedation they moved over seventy roan by Hercules airplane to
western Etosha. At the time the sedating of animals for a long period
during transportation was a novel technique. The technique worked well
and the roan underwent quarantine. A few were released into western
Etosha and the rest were moved to the Waterberg Plateau Park." |
