Excerpt(s) from the book Namibian Wildlife - an alternative guide for the traveller on safari.

"Puff adders have cytotoxic venom that destroys the body’s cells. Other venomous snakes like mambas have neurotoxic venom that causes paralysis and so stops people being able to breathe. This takes a while (7 to 15 hours for an adult), so there is normally time to get to a hospital for treatment."

"The cape file snake kills venomous and non venomous snakes. However when captured it does not bite, but may empty its bowels over you. Large snouted cobras will kill puff adders. Rather than “dog eat dog”, “snake eat snake” may be a more appropriate saying."
